Kant and Metaphysics

“Kant thought that men will surely return to Metaphysics as one returns to one's mistress after a quarrel,” writes Hannah Arendt in her book The Life of The Mind. Arendt is right. Kant’s motivation for writing the first Critique was to save metaphysics from his understanding of Hume’s skepticism. In my opinion, Kant was overestimating the power of his own philosophical arguments. Metaphysics is what it is. It is speculation. It is rationalization. You cannot prove or disprove a theory of metaphysics.
